Winter
Charlotte weather during winter retains a pleasantly warm disposition throughout most of the season’s duration. January is the coldest month and averages 5 °C, highs averaging around 11°C, although temperatures can at times drop to 0°C. Occasionally they can rise above 21 °C but seldom lower. No more than half of the winter days fall below freezing and sub-zero. Snow in Charlotte is rare and the annual average snowfall is around 14 cm, giving locals the opportunity to take pleasure in the snow, without having to endure it.
Summer
Charlotte weather in summer is characterized by brilliant sunshine and clear blue skies. July is the hottest month of the year as temperatures can rise above 32°C. Average daily temperatures range at 24°C. Cities further south compared to Charlotte receive a considerable amount of sunshine. Weather in Charlotte experiences very hot conditions for only 40 days, mercury soaring to 38°C twice a year. These alluring days are interrupted by cool nights under star filled skies.
Spring / Autumn
Charlotte weather in spring and autumn is a feast for the eyes, as the slow emergence of spring, from mid-March through May, provides people with a visual extravaganza. Spring is lengthy and arrives early, and April is the driest month. The Carolina blue skies draw attention to the pinks, reds, yellows, purples and soft whites of the spring blossoms which fill the city. The same clear blue skies reflect on the brilliant array of colors that paint the trees and leaves well into November. Both seasons are appreciably long, providing a slow, pleasurable first step into summer or winter.
Yet again Charlotte weather presents the best of both worlds, precipitation is evenly scattered right through the year, and annual average rainfall is 110 cm. The summer months hold the multitude of the heaviest rainfall; January and March are the wettest months with an average of11.2cm of precipitation, and November is the driest month with only 7.7cm. These invigorating rains are well balanced. Dry spells are infrequent and Charlotte on no account has had a major flood. Nonetheless occasional flooding occurs in the lowlands; narrow streams and river basins are equipped to carry most of the rainfalls effectively.
